For 25 years, the New Bedford Festival Theatre’s Summer Academy has been a place where teens discover the magic of storytelling, collaboration, and self-expression—all at no cost to them. In a community where arts opportunities are scarce, this program opens doors that many young people never thought possible. Each summer, students step into the world of theatre, learning from mentors, building friendships, and creating one-act plays that reflect their own voices and dreams.

With support from the White Family Foundation, they’ve gained even more inspiring experiences—sitting in on professional rehearsals and crafting original works under the guidance of passionate artists. For these students, the stage becomes more than a spotlight—it becomes a place of belonging, confidence, and endless possibility.
