Everett Company, Stage & School

A Place to Belong Through the Performing Arts

For many young people in Providence’s underserved communities, opportunities to engage deeply with the arts are increasingly limited. After-school programs are often underfunded or inaccessible, leaving students without creative outlets that support emotional growth, confidence, and connection. Everett: Company, Stage & School exists to fill that gap.

Each year, Everett provides free, yearlong after-school performing arts programming for high school students across the city. With ten hours of weekly instruction, students immerse themselves in performance, production, and creative exploration—building not only artistic skills, but critical thinking, collaboration, and a sense of purpose that extends far beyond the stage.

The impact of this work is perhaps best understood through the voices of the students themselves. One participant shared:

“I love Everett. This is one of my favorite places to be. I have stress at home and a lot of pressure with stuff like sports, but at Everett I feel like there is no judgement here. It’s a safe place and very accepting. I feel like you can be whoever you want to be. Like at the monthly Open Stage—that’s where I get to express my arts and dance that I’ve learned.”

Stories like this reflect Everett’s role as more than an arts program—it is a stable, welcoming community where young people feel seen and supported during a critical stage of their lives. As students grow into young adults, enter career pathways, and remain engaged members of their communities, Everett remains a consistent presence in their development.

The White Family Foundation has supported Everett’s after-school programming over multiple years, helping ensure that this space of learning and belonging remains accessible to students who need it most. This sustained support allows Everett to plan long-term, build trust with participants, and continue offering high-quality instruction without financial barriers.

Everett’s work demonstrates how access to the arts can foster resilience, confidence, and lifelong growth—and how consistent investment in creative education strengthens not only individuals, but the broader community.
